Abstract

In the course of researching variety of vaginal smear staining of 97 normal and abnormal cases, including 10 uterine cancer cases, the sampling, fixing, staining and reading are discussed and summarized as follows:
1. In collecting specimens for examination, an author-improvised small curet or a cotton applicator applied Collodion USP and dried was used in scraping and wiping with the best results.
2. The detection rate was relatively high even when a routine fixation solution such as 95 per cent ethyl alcohol, acetone, or 99 per cent methyl alcohol was used.
3. From the collection of the samples to fixation, there was, even with the specimen dried, no difference. 4. The length of fixation time has no influence on the chromatism for cells, and no more than 10 days was found proper.
